Closing in Drusti & Liepa

In order to be well equipped for fulfilling our mission: to spread the good news of Jesus and make the world a better place, The Salvation Army in Latvia has for the last year been in the process of evaluating all areas of our work. This has helped us to see which adjustments have been necessary for achieving the mission. We’re excited to let you know that we will start work in a new town and restart the work in another (more about these soon!), but this has also meant the decision to close the work in some locations.

Therefore, on 13th and 14th of April, two Corps of The Salvation Army, in Liepa and Drusti, small towns in the Vidzeme region, were formally closed. Both events became a celebration with a mixture of sadness and joy, expressing thankfulness to God for the good that has been done over many years and listening to stories from those who were gathered about the faithfulness of God. The official closures were conducted by the Regional Commander, Commissioner Marie Willermark, where the Salvation Army flags of both Liepa and Drusti Corps where rolled up and laid down, as a symbol that these are no longer official units of the movement in Latvia.

While we are sad to have to close our work in some places, we are excited about the opportunities these steps have brought – for new openings and renewal in other areas of Latvia. May God Bless The Salvation Army in Latvia.
