Self Denial

The Salvation Army is an international religious organization, and currently is represented in 128 countries. These States are both the world’s richest countries, such as Norway, Singapore and the United States, as well as on the contrary – the poorest, like Nigeria or Congo Republic. During the beginnings of Salvation Army, its mission was discovered in the poorest parts of society. This mission was only possible if the wealthiest layers of society opened their hearts and made this mission financially possible. With years of changing mission scale and reaching countries where the rich social class is very small, wealthy countries have started to fund the work of the countries that are unable. And so these 118 states are split into those who give and those who receive. Latvia is among the countries who have always received. This is the current situation, and it will remain so for some time.
Project “Self Denial” is different. It annually points out to everyone that, compared to some other place, country and part of the world, even for a short while we are the ones who are wealthy, we are the ones who save and donate to others. The duration and frequency of this project may vary in each country.

“Each one must do
just as he has purposed in his heart,
not grudgingly or under compulsion,
for God loves a cheerful giver.”
