Social Work in The Salvation Army in Latvia

One of the Salvation Army slogans is „Heart to God, hand to man.” The Salvation Army is not only doing spiritual work but also vast social work. There are soup kitchens in 8 Salvation Army centres in Latvia where around 100 people a day are fed several times a week. The Salvation Army has good cooperation with local municipalities, as well as with the fund „” in the project „Kopgalds” and Boris and Inara Tetereva Fund in the project „Maizes rieciens”. Participation in these projects has open possibility to serve 103 863 portions of hot meals to those in need as well as to give out 4 101 food parcels last year. For many families a hot meal and a food parcel is the only way to provide food for themselves and their children. People can receive clothes and shoes in our centres. Both Latvian and donors from abroad have donated furniture and other household utensils which then can be given to families who have no means of buying it. Some centres also provide possibility to use showers and washing machines.

In the diagrams you can see the total sum of portions given out in soup kitchen in the Salvation Army in Latvia and the total sum of food parcels given out starting from year 2010.
