A Small Support for People in Need

The Salvation Army corps in Liepaja has acquired financing from fund “” to prepare food packets for lonely and elderly people. The money for this purpose was collected at the end of last year within a project “Make Christmas to Lonely Elderly”. This week most people in Liepaja have already received the packets.
To make the packet receiving even more sincere, this week the officers of Salvation Army corps invite these people to spend some time in a small event with a cup of tea, songs and fellowship. “We understand how difficult it is for those who can’t manage just with their pensions alone, therefore we are happy for every opportunity to help someone even for a while, making their lives easier and a little happier” said the captain of the corps Velta Udarska to “Kurzemes Vārds”. There was enough money to prepare packets for 50 people with each costing EUR 7. The packets had a variety of food and sweets. “Some might think that this is wastefulness, but we know that treats and snacks are those which people, living in poverty, abandon first. But we all also know how much we would sometimes love to have something sweet.” said V. Udarska, adding that having sweets in the packets was planned by fund “”.
Let this giving of support become something more than just a formal event, the activists of the Salvation Army organised the giveaway of packets as a small celebration. Half of 50 people invited came and the oldest woman was 89 years old. Those who did not come will receive their packets at their homes.
Among the recipients of the packets there were people whom the Salvation Army’s employees had known for a longer time and those who regularly visit the soup kitchen, and other lonely people.
